【劇情簡介】:
50年代的台灣，生活環境仍是非常窮困，人們不斷在為三餐在奮鬥，一切生活重心在追求安飽。有的失去丈夫之寡婦，她們的生存意義，不只在圖三餐溫 飽，更重要的是維護傳統名節，也就是貞節牌坊。也有為了蜚短長流的閒言而守，更有為了執著愛情克守。片中年輕處女月里，卻為了擁有一口飯，一個棲身之處而 守。
年輕守寡的月里，無奈寂寞跑回娘家，被大嫂冷落之餘，只有再回守寡的王家，王家老太婆決定提早分家產，大嫂分地，二嫂分房子，月里分得一隻豬。村中有位豬哥輝跟大嫂玉燕有姦情，但見月里之後，日久生情竟離開大嫂玉燕，跟月里比翼雙飛。
The movie portrays widows in a Confucian farming community and the difficulties they face in conforming to the Confucian requirements of them.
The movie follows the life of Yue Li, the 3rd daughter-in-law in a poor Taiwanese farming family. Both Yue Li and the 1st daughter-in-law Yu Yen are bound by the Confucian ethics which forbids them from remarrying. This makes life very difficult for them as they have difficulty tending the farm on their own and producing enough to feed themselves and their family. They are also sexually deprived. Yu Yen having been widowed for 8 years, has resorted to sleeping with the pig farmer Hui for pieces of pork and to satisfy her sexual appetite. Yue Li stumbles upon the affair and has to decide how to deal with it. Hui also eventually falls for/lusts for Yue Li and attempts to tempt her into an affair in exchange for pork. Yue Li tries to stay chaste (as is expected of her by Confucian ethics) but is severely tempted in the face of hunger and the petty gossiping of the village women. Will she cave in to bring home the bacon?
